US state and local developments

In September 2008 ten Northeastern states belonging to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative launched their cap and trade programme for carbon emissions. Read the New York Times article.

 

US activism and campaigns

April 8 2008.  The Blue Green Alliance, a partnership of the United Steelworkers and the Sierra Club is a project sponsored by the Public Health Institute. On April 8 2008 the Alliance, along with the Natural Resources Defense Council, launched the national Green Jobs for America campaign. The campaign will focus on the ability of a serious commitment to clean, renewable energy to make the U.S. more energy independent, help end our dependence on fossil fuels and create hundreds of thousands of green jobs nationwide.
