Some initial sources on voting patterns

Polling and Voting data

FiveThirtyEight is a site created by Nat Silver with Sean Quinn for the 2008 elections, which aims - in thier own words - " to accumulate and analyze polling and political data in way that is informed, accurate and attractive. Most narrowly, to give you the best possible objective assessment of the likely outcome of upcoming elections."

Traditional polling sources

Real Clear Politics  provides summaries of results from major polling organizations such as

Gallup

Quinnipiac University Polling Institute

Rasmussen Reports

Survey USA

Useful sites for analysis of voting and polling data

The Cook Political Report

The Democratic Strategist  - edited by William Galston, Stan Greenberg and Ruy Teixeira includes articles on election analysis.

Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball

Pew Research Center

Interesting analysis and commentary on the election result

  • Read Robert Worcester's (MORI polls) presentation of his analysis of the Presidential result at a recent London conference.
  • Read the discussion in the UK Prospect magazine. Included in this discussion of the implications of Obama's election for racial divisions is an article by Jonathan Derbyshire entitled "Post-racial Kitsch" and his interviews with Kwame Anthony Appiah, a Ghanian-American philosopher and theorist of identity, John McWhorter, an African-American linguist who has attacked "black victimology," and Tommie Shelby, a historian of the black solidarity movement, which  are recorded in full.
